Privacy Policy
Maestrovio is a trade name of AardJay Labs LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("AardJay Labs", "we", "us"). Maestrovio is a web application for piano students and teachers to browse, track, and discover repertoire, and for teachers to schedule lessons, manage enrollments, and track tuition for their own studio. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
When you create an account we collect your email address, username, date of birth, and a securely hashed password. Teachers additionally provide a full name, which is shown to students when an invitation is sent. We never store passwords in plain text.
When you use the app we record your library activity — pieces you have wishlisted, are studying, or have learned — along with optional notes and ratings. Teachers' actions (assignments, performance events) are also recorded.
Teachers who use the scheduling and tuition tools additionally provide package pricing and terms, lesson enrollment details (day, time, and frequency), attendance records, lesson notes, and records of tuition payments they report having received (amount, method, date, and any note). A teacher may add a student to their roster using only a name, without that person ever creating a Maestrovio account — in that case, we hold only the name and scheduling/tuition information the teacher has entered, on the teacher's behalf, as their own business record. Maestrovio is not a payment processor for tuition between teachers and students; these records are for the teacher's own bookkeeping only — see our Terms of Service.
If you subscribe to Maestrovio Pro, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We store only the identifiers needed to manage your subscription. Card details never reach our servers.
We use standard browser-based session technology to keep you signed in. Sessions expire automatically after a period of inactivity.
We may use third-party analytics and advertising services, including advertising networks and tracking pixels, which may set cookies or use similar tracking technologies on your device. Where such services are active, a cookie consent banner will be presented on your first visit and you can update your preferences at any time. These services are not activated for authenticated users whose registered date of birth indicates they are under 18. See Section 8 for details.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To operate the service: authentication, library sync, recommendations, and teacher–student features.
- To send you emails related to the service, including transactional emails (verification, password reset, invite notifications), activity summaries, engagement reminders (e.g. encouragements to keep your library up to date), product updates, and new feature announcements. All non-transactional emails include an unsubscribe link. We do not send promotional emails on behalf of third parties.
- To calculate anonymised aggregate statistics (e.g. most-added pieces). Individual data is never exposed to other users except as described in Section 3.
- To process your subscription and manage billing.
- To comply with our legal obligations and enforce these policies.
3. Teacher–Student Data Sharing
When a student accepts a teacher's invitation, that teacher gains access to the student's library and progress data, including but not limited to pieces in their library, status (wishlist / studying / learned), notes, and ratings. Where the student is also enrolled in a lesson package, the teacher additionally manages that student's scheduling data (lesson times, attendance, and lesson notes) and tuition records (charges and payments). This access exists for the duration of the teacher–student connection or enrollment.
A roster-only student who has not created a Maestrovio account has no access to any data at all — their name and any scheduling or tuition information is visible only to the teacher who entered it.
Students can remove a teacher connection at any time from Account settings. Removal immediately ends the teacher's access to the student's live library and data.
When a connection ends, the teacher retains a private, read-only record of the assignments they created during the relationship (piece titles, notes, and due dates), as well as any scheduling and tuition records for that student (lesson history, attendance, and payment records), identified by the student's name or username at the time of disconnection. This record is not accessible to any other user and is deleted if the teacher deletes their own account.
Teachers do not have access to other students' data, and students cannot see other students' data.
We may in future offer features that allow teachers to be discoverable by prospective students or to be contacted by third parties such as venues. Any such features will require explicit opt-in by the teacher and will be governed by additional terms presented at that time.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the service you registered for.
- Legitimate interests — for aggregate analytics, service improvement, and retention of teachers' professional records, where these do not override your rights.
- Legal obligation — where required by applicable law.
- Consent — for advertising and analytics cookies where required by applicable law, and for any optional features where we ask for your permission.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR respectively. If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the CCPA. Users in other jurisdictions may have similar rights under local law. We honour deletion, access, and correction requests from all users regardless of location — see Section 6.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data while your account is active. Deleting your account permanently removes your personal data — email address, date of birth, password, and library entries — from our systems. Your username may be retained within a former teacher's private assignment history as described in Section 3.
Some data may be retained longer where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (for example, billing records retained by our payment processor). We make reasonable efforts to maintain data integrity but cannot guarantee against all data loss events; we recommend keeping your own records of important repertoire, scheduling, and tuition information.
6. Your Rights
You may access, correct, or delete your data at any time. Delete your account from Account settings. Export a copy of your data directly from Account settings — no email required. For requests that cannot be completed through the product, contact hello@maestrovio.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are located in the EEA or UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
7. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed before storage. We use reputable third-party cloud infrastructure and follow industry-standard security practices. Despite these measures, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
8. Third-Party Services and Advertising
We use carefully selected third-party services to operate Maestrovio, including payment processing and cloud hosting. These providers access only the data necessary to perform their functions and are contractually required to protect it. We do not sell your data to third parties.
We may use third-party advertising networks and tracking pixels to measure the effectiveness of our marketing and to reach prospective users. Such services may collect your IP address, browser and device identifiers, pages visited, and actions taken on our site, and may transfer data to the United States. Where such services are active, you will be able to opt out via our cookie consent tool or your browser settings. Advertising and analytics tracking is not activated for authenticated users whose registered date of birth indicates they are under 18.
9. Children and Parental Consent
Students aged 13–17 may use Maestrovio only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By registering on behalf of a minor, the parent or guardian agrees to these Terms and this Privacy Policy and takes responsibility for the minor's use of the service. We collect date of birth at registration. If we become aware that a user under 13 has registered without proper consent, we will delete the account promptly. If you believe this has occurred, contact us at hello@maestrovio.com.
Teachers must be at least 18.
10. International Users
Maestrovio is operated from the United States. If you access the service from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US. We take steps to ensure that such transfers are made in accordance with applicable law and that your data remains protected.
11. Changes
We will notify registered users by email of material changes. The effective date above reflects the current version. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
